Make Ahead Smoothies


Happy Dance Bananas are on sale this week !!! In rural AK that means I got them for under $3 a lb and only half of them were crazy bruised from the trip North to Alaska …. The perfect staple to start some freezer smoothly packs.

My yearly goal ….eat healthier. For me that means cutting out pre-packaged food full of preservatives and make more food at home. I dream of being that mom who jumps out of bed and makes her family an amazing filling breakfast, in reality I live to hit the snooze one more time. Last year I went thru a freezer phase; Freezer meals ROCK. Before freezer mania I hadn’t the foggiest you could freeze bananas and other smoothly ingredients.  This 15 minutes of prep can make a weeks work of healthy breakfast smoothies in a snap.

Supplies :

Gallon Freezer Bags

Spinach or Kale

Bananas

Frozen or Fresh Fruits– Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Peaches ….anything that sounds yummy!

Yogurt if you like thicker smoothies

Chia Seeds

Wheat Grass * I use powdered since this is not a village store staple

Cinnamon

Toss ingredients of choice in Freezer bag (I generally don’t freeze my chia seeds and just add when I blend)

In the morning take out to thaw. I only thaw enough so I can break apart to toss in the blender.

Blend with liquid of choice — You can use milk, juice, tea, water … the combinations are endless.

***You can freeze the yogurt in ice cub trays and add to your freezer packs to save some time in the morning
